At the start of the academic year, the college were awarded funding to become an English College Football Association (ECFA) Football Hub. Part of the funding we had to recruit 2 student Football Activators, who were Rohan Williams and Hannah Askew. The activators aim was to engage students who currently do not take part in football engage into participating.

This term we have teamed up with This Girl Can and Cancer Research’s Pretty Muddy to run a female only boot camp.

Over 30 female students have signed up and are regularly attending our #ThisBilboroughGirlCan Boot camp. The 6-week fitness course is designed to improve the student’s fitness and strength via fun and exciting activity. The training all comes to a head as the students enter into the Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course on Sunday 14^th May.

12 Bilborough College students have qualified to represent Bilborough College and the region at the AoC Sport National Championships 2017, which take place next month in Nottingham.

The students from Bilborough College fought off stiff competition from colleges across East Midlands to which qualifies them for the national finals taking place at the University of Nottingham and surrounding facilities over the weekend of 21-23 April.

The AoC Sport National Championships will see the team competing against athletes from colleges across England and Wales. As well as individual glory, teams will be aiming to accumulate points for their region and win the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.

Students at Bilborough College aired their views on Brexit as part of a regional campaign to ensure that young people’s voices are heard as part of the negotiations.

Nonsuch Theatre Company, based in Nottingham, visited the college to hear what students had to say about Brexit during a series of workshops as part of the Undivided campaign.

Following the discussions, students’ views will be digitally submitted and will contribute to a list of top 10 demands from young people which will then be presented to Parliament.

Two Bilborough College students have organised a fashion show to raise funds for a trip to help conserve marine and wildlife in Sri Lanka.

Janet Tokitsu, 16, and George Hattersley, 17, will be cleaning rivers, planting trees and working at a turtle hatchery during the three week stay at the end of July, which is being organised by company Travelteer.

Both students need to raise around £1,600 each to pay for their travel costs and are busy arranging a fashion show at The Vale Social Club in Colwick later this month.

Hundreds of Bilborough College students signed up to potentially save a life during a donor drive session held by a national blood cancer charity.

Anthony Nolan’s Register & Be a Lifesaver sessions have been running at Bilborough College for six years and during that time 865 students have joined the register – including 124 at a recent session.

Over the six years there have been three donors from Bilborough College, the most recent being Amy Rogers, 18, of Sherwood. Amy donated her bone marrow in October 2016 after signing up to the register following an R&Be talk at Bilborough College in 2014. She was also the 50^th donor from the R&Be programme.

Students at Bilborough College took a 3D tour around the human body and brain, visited Iceland, the moon and Google headquarters without leaving their classrooms thanks to a series of virtual reality field trips.

The immersive experience was provided by Google Expeditions, which allows students to explore everywhere from Mars and the Great Barrier Reef to the inside of Buckingham Palace.

Google Expeditions provide a tablet for the teacher along with cardboard viewers and phones for every student.

Using an app on the tablet the teacher selects a destination and the entire classroom gets a 3D view of it through their cardboard viewer.

Bilborough College students have achieved an impressive 99.2% A Level pass rate, exceeding 98% for the twelfth consecutive year, with 27 of the subjects on offer reaching pass rates of 100%.
