  • Bilborough College student selected from more than 1000 across UK for USA university programme

    A Bilborough College student has been selected from more than 1,000 applicants across the UK for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to find out more about universities in America.

    Dayna Mooneegan is one of 150 students who have been awarded a place on the Sutton Trust US Programme 2017.

    She had to satisfy strict criteria to qualify for the programme which included achieving eight A or A* grades at GCSE.

  • Students at Bilborough College take part in mock election

    Students at Bilborough College exercised their right to vote after hearing from four political party candidates during a mock election.

    The event was organised in a bid to encourage the 606 students who are eligible to vote to register in time for the upcoming election.

    Candidates from the Lib Dems, Conservatives, Labour and the Green Party each delivered a five-minute speech to students before taking questions.

    Students then cast their votes using real ballot boxes and voting booths and the overall winner was the Labour Party with 72 per cent of the votes. The Conservatives secured 13 per cent of the vote, the Green Party eight per cent and the Lib Dems seven per cent.

  • Bilborough College student talks about life-changing trip to Honduras

    An ex-student returned to Bilborough College talk about her life-changing trip to Honduras teaching underprivileged youngsters in schools and orphanages.

    Jessica Riley-Heenan spent a year in Honduras with Project Trust, the oldest educational charity specialising in overseas volunteering placements for school leavers.

    As a result of her time in the Central American country, Jessica is now studying a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) course at Nottingham Trent University as she wants to teach English abroad.

    She recently came back to Bilborough College to talk to current students about how the trip had changed her life.

  • New figures show ex-Bilborough College students achieve higher classes of degrees on average

    New figures show that on average ex-Bilborough College students achieve higher classes of degrees than their counterparts from state, independent schools and other sixth form colleges across the UK.

    A total of 84.93 per cent of students from Bilborough College achieved a first or upper second class honours degree at university in the 2015/16 academic year.

    This compares to 76.12 per cent from sixth form colleges, 73.62 per cent from state schools and 79.52 per cent from independent schools across the country.

    The figures have been released by the Sixth Form Colleges Association for the 2015/16 academic year using information supplied by its 90 members and data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

  • Bilborough College students sign up to boot camp with This Girl Can campaign

    This term we have teamed up with This Girl Can and Cancer Research’s Pretty Muddy to run a female only boot camp.

    This Girl Can

    Over 30 female students have signed up and are regularly attending our #ThisBilboroughGirlCan Boot camp. The 6-week fitness course is designed to improve the student’s fitness and strength via fun and exciting activity. The training all comes to a head as the students enter into the Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course on Sunday 14th May.

  • Bilborough College qualifies for AoC Sport National Championships

    12 Bilborough College students have qualified to represent Bilborough College and the region at the AoC Sport National Championships 2017, which take place next month in Nottingham.

    The students from Bilborough College fought off stiff competition from colleges across East Midlands to which qualifies them for the national finals taking place at the University of Nottingham and surrounding facilities over the weekend of 21-23 April.

    The AoC Sport National Championships will see the team competing against athletes from colleges across England and Wales. As well as individual glory, teams will be aiming to accumulate points for their region and win the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.

  • Brexit views aired by Bilborough College students as part of regional campaign

    Students at Bilborough College aired their views on Brexit as part of a regional campaign to ensure that young people’s voices are heard as part of the negotiations.

    Nonsuch Theatre Company, based in Nottingham, visited the college to hear what students had to say about Brexit during a series of workshops as part of the Undivided campaign.

    Following the discussions, students’ views will be digitally submitted and will contribute to a list of top 10 demands from young people which will then be presented to Parliament.
