An introduction to BTEC Business

Bilborough College only runs BTEC Business Extended Certificate (1 A level equivalent) however much of the information in the video remains relevant.

BTEC Extended Certificate in Business FAQs

The BTEC Extended Certificate in Business is a course for anyone with a serious desire to develop their knowledge of the world of Business. This is a classroom-based course which gives students the opportunity to apply business theory to vocational situations in preparation for working in Business. Throughout the course we will cover various aspects of individual businesses, such as Marketing and Finance, as well as relating the theory to the everyday world of business. In addition to theory that we cover, it is also our goal to make all of our students prepared for the world of work in the digital economy, which will mean a development of key skills for the business world which all employers will love to see in the future. This is a fantastic course for anyone who has a keen interest in Business and wants to study this alongside A-Level courses at college. The course is equivalent to 1 A Level.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at 4 or above including Maths and English. Grade 5 in at least 1 writing-based GCSE. Previous study of Business (GCSE or L2 BTEC) grade 4/Merit.

Educational Visits

The BTEC courses focus on you gaining a real life understanding of Business – each year our BTEC Business students get the opportunity to go on fantastic trips to London and New York to see the business world in action!

Links with Employers

On the BTEC Business course we work with local employers to help students get a first-hand experience of the ‘real’ world of business. As part of one of our units, students will complete a project set and run by a local business, this gives our students a fantastic actual experience of how businesses operate, and this experience can be used to help University/Employment applications and references in the future.

Progression

The BTEC qualification is recognised by both Universities as well as employers.

Past BTEC Business students have gone on to study various Business related courses at University as well as gaining Sponsored Degree Apprenticeships at various local companies in areas including Buying, Finance, Accounting etc.


Course Structure

The full qualification is 4 units.

You will be externally assessed in 2 of the following units:

Unit 2 – Developing a Marketing Campaign – Assessment is a supervised assessment in class.

Unit 3 – Personal and Business Finance – Assessment is a written examination.

You will be internally assessed in two of the following units:

Unit 1 – Exploring Business

Unit 8 – The Recruitment and Selection Process

Internally assessed work includes portfolios, reports, leaflets and presentations.
