BTEC Extended Certificate in Applied Science FAQs

Why choose BTEC science, rather than A level? We offer students the chance to study science at level 3 with a grade 5,4 in the sciences, and a grade 4 in English and maths – lower than the grade 6 in sciences and maths needed for the A level sciences.

The BTEC level 3 Extended Certificate counts as one of your three A level subjects and is a two year course. It is equivalent to one A level and is primarily aimed at students who would like to continue to study some science to support their other options.

Extended Certificate

Equivalent to 1 A-Level, this course will suit you if you are prepared to develop good practical skills by getting involved in lessons. You also need to be organised and able to listen carefully to advice. Most importantly, you should have a genuine interest in science as it requires a high degree of self-motivation.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English Language. At least 5-4 in Double Science or 5-4-4 in Triple Science.

This qualification cannot be taken alongside any other Level 3 Science course.
