Travel Disruption

Important Information for all students – please plan ahead for road closure after half term.

Severn Trent Water are planning some work due to start on Monday 3rd June which may impact your journey to college (see STWA information here for exact location). It is a southbound closure in the Nuthall / Kimberley area which requires a diversion that is likely to put additional traffic onto morning routes only from that area and the M1 North of J26.

If you travel on college bus routes 2, 3 or 5 we will send you more specific information about how this will affect you, but we want all students to be aware in case you are not on the bus route but arrive from that direction. We did make a strong case to postpone the works until after the exam season, but this was rejected by Nottinghamshire Highways.

If you are travelling from this direction, please remember…

  1. Allow extra time for your journey the first week back after half term, especially the first day of the work which is usually when the longest delays occur.
  2. Morning exams begin at 9.15am which does allow extra time to arrive, but lessons still start at 8.50.
  3. If you have an exam in the morning, leave the house earlier to account for delays.
  4. We did consider changing the bus timetable but decided that the risk of students missing the bus on a new schedule (and therefore missing an exam completely) was greater than the risk of being able to manage a late arriving bus.
  5. We will have a designated ‘late arrival exam room’ so that if a bus does come in late students don’t have to rush to an already started exam hall but can calmly start their exams when they arrive.

We understand that you are likely to share our concerns about this matter which seems to be outside of our control.  If you have any other questions or suggestions please do get in contact and, as always, we will do everything we can to ensure that students have a good exam / summer term experience despite these challenges.

ADDITIONAL Information for users of Bilborough College bus Routes 2, 3 and 5

Due to the closure above, Routes 2, 3 and 5 will follow the diversion which is likely to delay the arrival of the bus in the mornings.  As it is only a southbound closure, the return bus route home should not be affected.

We have had to put place a plan to ensure that for days when students on these routes have exams, we have contingency arrangements in place.  Below is a mix of information and suggestions which you may find helpful.

  1. Morning exams begin at 9.15am which does allow extra time to arrive.
  2. If you can get to college any other way on exam days, then please do consider this option and leave the house earlier (we can provide bus pass holders a refund for any exam days you take this option).
  3. We will have a designated ‘late arrival exam room’ so that if a bus does come in late students don’t have to rush to an already started exam hall but can calmly start their exams when they arrive.
  4. We did consider changing the bus timetable but decided that the risk of students missing the bus on a new schedule (and therefore missing an exam completely) was greater than the risk of being able to manage a late arriving bus; but we will give this option further consideration on 3 June, when we have a clear picture of how much time is being added to morning journeys.

If you have any other questions or suggestions please do get in contact and, as always, we will do everything we can to ensure that students have a good exam experience despite these challenges.
