To begin your journey with us here at Bilborough 6th Form College please visit our Application portal.

To study at Bilborough 6th Form College you will need the equivalent of at least five GCSEs at grade C (or equivalent) or above. Some subjects have higher entry requirements to ensure you will cope well with the course content – please see the guides to individual subjects. If you meet these requirements, you can apply to Bilborough Sixth Form College.

If possible, please come and visit us!

We hold regular Open Days, also during the autumn term we organise smaller “Tour and Talk” events for groups of students to find out more about what we have to offer – see our events page for more information! Alternatively, look out for us at the annual “What Next” and “Derby Skills Fair” and other events – we may even pop in to your school to deliver a Year 10 assembly!

If you can, we prefer you to apply online, but if you want a paper application form, just let us know. In order to use our online application system you will need to register and provide us with an email address and we will use this email address to keep you informed of how your application is progressing. Please take time to read through the information and advice in the pages in our online application system and if you have any queries, just get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!

More about our online applications system – what happens after you’ve applied?

Once you have completed your application, and pressed “submit” you will receive an email acknowledgement from us almost instantly. If you don’t get your confirmation email, please get in touch with us to check all is well with your application. It is very rare for this to happen, but sometimes it happens if:

  • You submitted an invalid or incorrect email address
  • Our system became temporarily unavailable at the time you pressed submit
  • You submitted your application very close to the times that our back-up processes run

Once we receive your application we will check it and then contact your school to request a reference. Sometimes, this can delay your application because some schools deal with references in batches. If you are at all concerned please contact us, as we know approximately how long it takes for references to come back from most of the schools we deal with. In most cases, you can expect to hear from us within 6 weeks of making your application.

When we receive your reference from school, we will review what your school has said and look at your predicted grades for GCSE and the subjects you have chosen to study at A level. As you know, we require a minimum of 5 GCSE passes grade C and above, including Maths and English and there are some subjects where it is strongly advised to have good GCSE grades to progress successfully to A level and beyond.

Depending on your predicted grades, we may invite you in for a brief interview, just to check that your chosen course is absolutely right for you, but in most cases, we are able to offer a place based on the information we have in your application and the school reference and so a provisional offer of a place is made. You will then receive an email to confirm this. This means that provided you achieve the required grades in your GCSE’s, you can have a place at Bilborough Sixth Form College.

Sometimes we make a “provisional conditional offer”, which means that we are waiting for a reference but the information in your application suggests that you are likely to meet our entry requirements. This is because we understand how important it is to our prospective students to know whether they are likely to get their place.

If you were unable to attend our Open Day and want to have a look around the college, we are offering tours once a month – details are on our Events page, but contact us to book a place as they are very popular!

Remember – you are welcome to contact us at any time to check the progress of your application.
