Our Subject

Studying this BTEC Business course allows students with a variety of previous business knowledge to develop their understanding of business environments, finance and marketing. You will gain a variety of employability and higher education skills along the way including presenting, report writing and creating promotional material.

You will receive excellent teaching and resources, with visits to selected businesses to enhance theoretical knowledge.

This course is the equivalent of 2 A-Levels and can be studied alongside an A-Level or BTEC Extended Certificate or BTEC Subsidiary course in another subject area.

Entry Requirements – 5 GCSEs at C/4 or above including Maths and English.

Educational Visits

The BTEC courses focus on you gaining a real life understanding of Business – and to gain that, you need to visit some! Students will have the opportunity to visit Cadburys World, London (Marketing Trip) and New York.

Progression

The BTEC qualification is recognised by both Universities as well as employers.

Past BTEC Business students have gone on to study Business related courses at University as well as higher apprenticeships in Buying and Human Resources.


Course Structure

The full qualification is 8 units.

You will be externally assessed in 3 of the following units:

Unit 2 – Developing a Marketing Campaign – Assessment is a supervised assessment in class.

Unit 3 – Personal and Business Finance – Assessment is a written examination.

Unit 7 – Principles of Management – Assessment is a supervised assessment in class.

You will be internally assessed in 5 of the following units:

Unit 1 – Exploring Business
Unit 4 – Managing an Event
Unit 5 – International Business
Unit 8 – The Recruitment and Selection Process
Unit 9 – Team Building in Business

Internally assessed work includes portfolios, reports, leaflets and presentations.
